Why We Need an “Exclude AI Music” Button on Streaming Platforms (And How to Sign the Petition)

Music discovery used to feel authentic. You’d hit play on a playlist, radio queue, or recommendation mix, trusting the algorithm to introduce you to raw, human artistry.

Today, that experience is changing fast.

Streaming services like Spotify, YouTube Music, and Apple Music are increasingly filling listener feeds, algorithmic playlists, and automated queues with synthetic, unlabelled AI-generated tracks. For both dedicated music lovers and working independent artists, this growing wave of computer-generated audio is making it harder than ever to support and discover genuine human creation.

It is time for major streaming platforms to give listeners control over what they hear.

The Growing Problem with AI Tracks in Recommendation Feeds

While AI tools continue to develop across many industries, their unlabelled integration into commercial music platforms creates a frustrating experience for subscribers:

  • Algorithmic Oversaturation: Unlabelled AI-generated songs, synthetic vocals, and heavily AI-assisted instrumentals are frequently mixed into daily mixes and radio queues without clear disclosure.
  • Lack of Listener Consent: Subscribers who pay monthly fees for curated music discovery often have no option to filter out synthetic audio or restrict their feeds to human creators.
  • Hidden Metadata: Without standard tags or clear labeling on uploads using heavy AI assistance, identifying non-human music relies on manual skipping rather than platform transparency.

Dozens of support requests and community posts asking platforms for filtering options have gone unanswered. That is why a new industry-wide effort has been launched.

What the Petition Demands

To restore listener choice and support real artists, this campaign calls on all major streaming platforms to implement two critical features across the industry:

  1. Mandatory, Universal AI Tagging: High-visibility badges and standardized metadata identifying any track built with full AI generation, synthetic/cloned vocals, or heavy AI assistance.
  2. Prominent Opt-Out Filtering: An account-wide toggle to exclude AI music from algorithmic recommendations, along with a visible “Don’t Recommend AI” button directly on the active song player screen.

How You Can Help Keep Music Human

If you want the right to choose whether non-human music enters your daily playlists, your voice matters.

Sign the official petition today and demand transparent AI labeling and opt-out controls across all streaming services:
